This is by far the most popular educational technique for classes of all subjects. It consists of the spontaneous expression of the students’ views on a specific question posed by the teacher. It is advisable to write the question on the board (either for face-to-face lessons or on a whiteboard for online lessons) so that it can be directly referenced by the participants throughout the process. Learners give short answers orally which are also noted on the board by the educator. The answers, which are completely spontaneous and do not require knowledge of the subject, aim to contribute to the multifaceted examination of the issue.

Benefits of 'brainstorming"
This technique has, in my opinion, excellent advantages, the main of which I would say is the high degree of participation in the process as it engages the majority of students. Being able to freely express their ideas without the fear of right and wrong answers during the first stage of the process enables them to express their thoughts openly and free of judgment. But also justification and critical reflection during the second and deeper stage gives the motivation for finding and organizing their arguments, justifying their beliefs while cooperating, accepting or politely disagreeing with the opinions of others.

The teachers' role
The experience of the teachers regarding the whole process plays a catalytic role as they are the ones who can schedule the duration of the activity so that the first stage is not time-consuming but also they provide guidelines for the organization and justification in the second and most important stage of the process. The fact that opposing views are expressed is by no means negative for the participants. As far as I am concerned, this is the very point of  “brainstorming” , exposing students to different sides of an issue and investigating it through various prisms with the goal of a fruitful dialogue.

Ignite the imagination
Some educators have talked about the danger of "storming into a show of imagination". This is certainly not a problem in language or creative writing classes. On the contrary, it is precisely why “brainstorming” is chosen as a technique to activate the imagination and motivate participants more creatively. So, I would say that the subject matter in addition to the experience of the teachers play an important role in the successful outcome of this technique.
